Pati Garcia

I am a full-spectrum midwife working to meet the needs of families experiencing miscarriage, abortion, pregnancy, labor/birth, and womb surgeries and more. I began my journey working with birthing people in 2007 as a doula aka “Chula Doula”. Since then, I have attended over 300 births. I weave multiple modalities and bring a holistic sexological bodyworker perspective to my work. I have worked as a midwife at Mamatoto Resource and Birth Centre in Trinidad and Tobago, South Coast Midwifery in Irvine, California, and enjoy working at birth centers and home births.

I am a California Licensed Midwife through the California Medical Board and a Certified Professional Midwife through the North American Registry of Midwives. I am also a Registered Midwife in Trinidad and Tobago, West Indies, and currently registered as a preceptor for NCM, NMI, Midwives College of Utah.

I decided to pursue midwifery for several reasons. I started having dreams where I am catching babies and I felt intimidated by the calling. I shared my concern with my Peruvian birth worker colleague who recommended I study with The Farm Midwives in Tennessee. The Farm assistant midwifery training solidified my confidence in answering the calling. Traditional midwifery knowledge is in danger of dying out, and I am part of the preservation of this knowledge for future generations. Lastly, in addition to wanting to work with anyone needing midwifery care, I identified a desire to work with trans individuals, who often have a difficult time birthing in the mainstream medical and social systems.

I am originally from the San Gabriel Valley born to Mexican and Peruvian migrants. Spanish is my first language and English is my dominant language. I identify as a queer woman of color as well as nonbinary and polyamorous and I share this so that my potential clients feel welcome to come as they are. I lived and practiced in Trinidad and Tobago where I became familiar with West Indian culture. I can give your chonkalonks some Trini love!
